2006/07 Annual Assessment of NHS Boards - Self Assessments

The following section contains the Patient Focus and Public Involvement self assessments which all NHS Boards in Scotland submitted to the Scottish Health Council on 16 February 2007 (Scottish Health Council does not assess NHS Quality Improvement Scotland).

Also included is a list of actions agreed between each NHS Board and Scottish Health Council to take forward Patient Focus and Public Involvement activity for next year.

The self assessments detail Patient Focus and Public Involvement activity undertaken in each board to support the following national targets (though Special Health Boards vary from these):

• Measuring patient experience
• Development of Public Partnership Forums
• Ethnic monitoring of in-patients and out-patients
• Complaints responsiveness
• Smoking reduction
• Use of CHI (Community Health Index)
• 48 Hour access to Primary Care
• Cancer waiting times
• Delayed discharge from hospital
• Health Acquired Infection

The self assessments detail what Patient Focus and Public Involvement activity has taken place under each target so far and proposes actions to take these forward for 2007/8.

The agreed actions are what boards finally agreed with Scottish Health Council on 30 March 2007 to take forward in 2007/8. Scottish Health Council will monitor progress on these throughout the course of the year.

A final report summarizing each NHS Board’s overall performance for Patient Focus and Public Involvement for 2006/7, including progress from last year’s assessment, will be added to the website prior to the annual Ministerial Review of each board that will take place in the summer of 2007.
