Local Advisory Council Members

"Should your voice count more in the NHS?
The Scottish Health Council will make sure it does."

The Scottish Health Council will make sure the voices of patients, carers and the public count when decisions are made about NHS services. We will monitor and publish reports on how effectively NHS Boards are involving people in decisions about their own care and in the planning, improvement and delivery of local NHS services.

We will have an office in your NHS Board area, with a Local Advisory Council of voluntary members who can spare 2-3 days a month to keep us in touch with local issues and help us do our job. As an Advisory Council member you will help gather information to make sure your NHS Board is doing enough to involve patients and the public before decisions are taken. You won’t need a qualification but it would help if you have experience as a patient or carer or have been active in your local community. You will need to demonstrate you can work well with lots of different types of people and can put across your point of view whilst showing respect for others. You may need to be willing to learn new skills. Most of all you need to believe that involving patients and the public can make a difference to health services.

Should you be interested in joining the Local Advisory Council for your area, please contact your local office.

The Scottish Health Council is an equal opportunities organisation.
