In the past, the Scottish Health Council assessed NHS Boards across Scotland for how well they involved patients, carers and the public in decisions around the planning, design and delivery of care. From 2007 to 2009-10, Boards produced self-assessment reports, which the Scottish Health Council verified. Since 2010-11, NHS Boards have been required to complete a self-assessment in order to comply with the Participation Standard.
